Y1-14: Weeks 23 & 24, CPE, Spring and Grease Lightning!

I’ll just jump straight into it.
Monday Week 23, was a pretty normal day. Class and all that jazz. Although in the afternoon I started to feel quite bad, as if I was starting to fall ill again… It didn’t help at all when I sat in my Italian Cultural Studies lecture and had the bad luck to get this really annoying and stuck-up guy who didn’t stop complaining about how boring the lecture was during 2 hours straight, not letting me concentrate either. For f***’s sake, if you don’t want to be there, just LEAVE! Fortunately, I went to sleep early and the rest got rid of whatever bug I might’ve ended up catching…
On Tuesday I got a pizza for take-away and watched “Roma Città Aperta”. It was a very good movie which surprised me pleasantly. I thought it was going to be more boring, but that was not the case. On another note, the weather was horribly unstable. The sun shone, it rained and it nearly hailed in the span of 5 minutes. I will never understand the British weather.
My last tirma :'(
Wednesday was my day off as per usual. I had given up doing more preparation for the CPE, but I did plan how to get there in time and all that. I also read for my lectures and caught up with my coursework. I Skyped with my family and I also watched “Ladri di biciclette”, the other neorealist film I had to watch for class. This one was also good, but so depressing…
Thursday was a busy day because, as always, it is the day in which I have more hours of lessons. I also went to the volleyball training to unwind, but that didn’t spare me from getting nervous for my CPE test the next two days. I slept horribly that night.
Friday was a very sunny and lovely day. I went to my Italian class and then, after that, left for Bristol. The trip ran smoothly and I got there quite early. The other four candidates that I met in the waiting room happened to be all Spanish too, Josep, Adrian and Laia, who was to do the Speaking with me. She had crutches because her knee had swollen, which was a pain, but she was very nice. The Speaking test was alright. I’ll be happy if I pass, but I’d rather not think about it. You always end up feeling you could’ve done better. After the test, I walked to Broadmead and did some shopping there. The shops are massive and there is everything! I also enjoyed the sun a bit and then came back to Bath and chilled. Even though I had the rest of the exam really early on the next day, I did not feel as nervous as the day before and I slept really well.
On Saturday morning, I had to wake up really early because I had to be at the exam venue at 8:15. I got there really early (actually, I was the first person to arrive…) and I ended up meeting Maya, a girl from Switzerland who was also doing the exam. She was doing the course at IHBristol, as were the other candidates. Only the Spanish people were taking the exam independently… The test itself went well. Again, I know I made mistakes, but as long as I pass, I am happy. It was a really sunny day, what made me happy. The only bad thing about the day was a creep in the bus who sat next to me. He started to slowly scoop near me, without noticeably touching me. He retreated when I looked at him with my “f**k-off” face but then started again. I swear, he gets 2mm closer and I get up and yell at him. I don’t care. I just won’t tolerate it. I’d recommend you read this: http://www.rookiemag.com/2015/02/how-to-tell-creepy-dudes-to-leave-you-alone/ It didn’t get to that point, but I felt just the same. Anyway, once I was back, although I was really tired, I refused to waste such a nice day, so I went for a walk to Sham Castle. It was a lovely short walk and, of course, I took my camera J It is amazing how, when the sun is out, everybody comes out to the grass or parks, wherever they can enjoy a ray of sun. They reminded me of snails coming out of their shells haha In the morning it was Holi, but I wasn’t here for it. Not that I would’ve been able to go either, I’d have an attack from all the dust flying around!

Sunday was International Woman’s Day. I didn’t do anything special apart from wearing a violet jumper, awful me. I basically did the chores and coursework. It happened to be a really cold and grey day, so I wasn’t in the mood to do much. I went to the Library. Honestly, the amount of work I get done there is amazing. I have been going there lately, it keeps me focused. Hopefully, I will be able to finish most of my work before Easter, so I can actually enjoy the Spring break.
Talking of which, Spring has arrived. The daffodils prove it. They make me happy.
Week 24 was not particularly interesting. I was feeling happy since the CPE was over and done with (at least until I know the outcome in April…). On Monday I wore my new T-strap black shoes that I got from Primark. They are insanely cute! And in the evening we had an Italian Social Event. The Staff organised a meeting for all Italian students. We were mostly first years, but there were also second years and some fourth years around. We got free pizza and wine, did a quiz about Italy – our team, four 1st years and a 4th year, got to third place and we won some Ferrero Rocher!- and sang. We sang the Italian hymn, “O Sole Mio”, “Volare”,… It was so much fun! They also introduced some bursaries offered to the University to study in Italy over the Summer. They will send us more information about this, but it looks like a pretty good opportunity… That night I felt like watching a film, so I watched “10 Things I Hate About You”. Heath Ledger though. Nothing else to say. Well, one thing. My phone deleted all the notes I had on it, which pissed me off. But apart from that, it was a great day.
Tuesday was a bit of a waste of time, both class and the in-betweens. I Skyped with my parents (I can’t wait to see them soon) and then went to the Library at night. At least I got some work done there. Oh, and I have discovered the Caramel Latte at Starbucks. Such a treat.
On Wednesday I got up and took a shower. Then I ran some errands, including me picking up a free wine bottle as a thank-you from Time2Share J I also went to a talk about careers in the European Union. Although the process to get in is so arduous, I think it is worth the fuss. It looks like a decent option for me… I spent the afternoon in the Library and after dinner I just chilled in my room.
Thursday- a busy day again, including training. It was the last day of the SU Officer elections. I had done my voting and now the new Officers have been made public: Jordan Kenny reelected as SU President, Wadzi Pasipmire elected as Activities Officer, Matt Humberstone, Lucy Woodcock and Holly Clemens elected as Community, Education and Sports Officers respectively. We’ll see how the new team turns out.
On Friday I went to class and then decided to do the laundry. I just HATE doing the laundry. Three washing machines were broken and there were around 4 about to finish the cycles, but the owners of the clothes took ages to come and pick them out… I swear I can’t wait to have our own washing machine. After that Odyssey, I went into town to do some shopping and then came back. That evening, I went to watch “Grease”. The musical had been set up by BUSMS- the Bath Uni Student Musicals Society (https://www.icia.org.uk/whats-on/musical-theatre/grease/). The room was packed, but I found a nice spot for myself. A nice lady was sitting next to me and we chatted while we waited for the show to start. It was so much fun! The show was nicely put together and, although they were amateurs and some performances were better than others, the show in general was surprisingly good! I might do the BUSMS tasters next year… I miss doing something artistic.
And, finally, today I woke up pretty late, cleaned my room and went to get lunch. Now I am writing the blog and will do some work. Apparently we will be trying out a new volleyball coach today so I will go to train and do some more work after dinner. Tomorrow though, I will probably spend all day in the Library. I have some stuff to hand in before Easter and a test coming up next week, but I also want to get as much work done as I can before the break, so I can actually enjoy my time at home. I can’t wait for the holidays!
